Dreams of Ice

Ok, so for the second round of the contest this year, we were supposed to make our candidate ice skating. It took me a while to get around to it, spent a fair amount of time looking for a pose for her and ended up basing myself on an internet one... She's twirling, btw, as you can see from her flowing skirt, hair and the line marks on the ice. I wasn't going to go shiny since wasn't much of Gwen's style, at least the style she comes out having. She actually does like the shiny things, she just pretends not to Oh, feel free to ignore the BG... don't know what I was thinking, totally random..... ANYWAYS!!!

PLOT: Gwen comes from a poor home, but that doesn't mean she lacked for love in the early years of her life.

During winter a lake just outside the slums would freeze and Gwen would go there seeing the kids skate in makeshift skates or even their regular shoes. She tried getting on the ice, but she would fall almost immediately. Gwen knew she couldn't ask her parents to get her skates, they could barely afford food and heat.

Her father, however, loved his daughter dearly and wanted nothing more than to make her happy. Buying skates was not an option, but he was working on a metal melding factory at the time and he was able to "borrow" a couple of sharp metal bars that, in his free time, he fashioned into a makeshift pair of ice skates.

That weekend, he took her to the frozen lakes and presented them to her and never had that child smiled so widely. She skated all day, fell so many times she lost count, but by the end of the day she was sliding.

Everyday that week, she would get up early in the morning and return at nightfall and throughout the night she would dream of being all grown up, downing a beautiful and shiny dress like they wore on the store TVs, and being a famous figure skater...

That dream was shelved for most of her life as she never skated since till the time she was "encouraged" to join Red Fountain and whenever the situation would present itself, she would put on a pair of REAL ice skates and dance on the ice...
